The mall opened in February 1981 and it was absolutely poppin’. But the decline came fast, and it closed for good in August 2019. What’s happened since is a whole story of its own, and if you’ve driven past lately, you know it doesn’t look anything like it used to.

Corpus Christi also confirmed that code compliance has open violation cases against the property for maintenance issues, with inspections ongoing.
This isn’t the first round of trouble either. According to KIII-TV, the city set multiple demolition deadlines that came and went, and in 2025 officials issued 77 separate citations against the property over delays and unsafe conditions, with potential fines topping $150,000.
What’s Going to Be Built There?
There is a plan, and it’s ambitious. An architectural firm representing the owner recently confirmed to the city that they’re pursuing rezoning for apartments and other multifamily housing…
