ST. LOUIS – A story that could have ended in tragedy last week instead became a story of survival, as an employee of the St. Louis City Street Department rescued a baby left alone in the middle of a busy street.
“I was working and traveling northbound on Goodfellow. And as I came around the roundabout, I noticed there was a blue car sitting in the middle of Goodfellow,” Michelle Jones said. “And as I was approaching the car, that’s when I saw the driver take and set a car seat out into the middle of Goodfellow. … When he saw me approaching his vehicle, he took [off] and fled the scene.”
Jones didn’t hesitate. She drove closer to get a better look. And what she saw next stopped the longtime veteran of the Street Department in her tracks: a baby alone in the middle of a busy street, with traffic moving all around…
