JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Education experts said teacher retention is a big challenge in Mississippi. They said providing teachers with livable wages and positive work cultures where they can succeed are crucial to keeping teachers.
“We have to continue to show them that we appreciate them and that we need them,” said Dr. Errick Green, superintendent of the Jackson Public School District (JPS).
During the 2026 Legislative Session, teacher pay proposals reached as high as $5,000 to $6,000, but final negotiations landed with a $2,000 raise and additional money for special education teachers and some other positions…
