UVA Health among first in U.S. to offer new thumb joint replacement procedure

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – UVA Health is among the first medical centers in the country using a new implant designed to treat severe arthritis at the base of the thumb.

Thumb arthritis can make man everyday tasks painful and difficult.

“It can be difficult,” said Dr. Bobby Chhabra, a UVA Health hand surgeon. “As it gets worse, it can be difficult to open doors, open tops off a jar, turn your key, make a fist, and it is very painful.”…
