A magnitude 3.0 earthquake occurred near Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor was reported at 1:13 a.m., about 7.4 miles east-southeast of Gilroy or 17.4 miles east of Watsonville. Its epicenter was in San Benito County, near San Felipe Lake.
