INTERVIEW: Carol Scott’s unseen photos capture a golden era of Bay Area music

Carol Scott, 79, spends her days alongside her daughter, going through archives of photos from 40 years ago. Some of them she’s not seen before and others she’s now looking at with a new lens.

The photos, taken between 1977 and 1985, include candid snaps and intimate peaks into the souls of Jerry Garcia, Etta James and Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt, Prince, Frank Zappa, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles… the list goes on.

The past few years for Scott have sparked a newfound excitement for her photography, as many are seeing her photos for the first time. As she digs up more, she uncovers new stories of artists who’ve left their mark in the Bay Area…
