Some Summit County homeowners fear they’re going to feel a squeeze from higher property taxes next year after the county last week sent out letters informing residents of their homes’ new estimated values following reappraisals.The mailing from the Summit County Fiscal Office attempts to limit sticker shock, saying it is “important for property owners to know that property taxes do not change in proportion to value changes.”
But the step up in tax payments will still translate to an eye-popping increase for some, especially low- and middle-income property owners and residents who live off Social Security and fixed monthly retirement income.
