A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook part of Northern California on Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake struck at 7:40 p.m. about 5 miles east-southeast of Cloverdale, a small Sonoma County city roughly 80 miles northwest of San Francisco. It was centered about 3.4 miles below the surface, the USGS said.
