HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — New data shows cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) last year have led to a 14% decrease in participation over the past 12 months.
According to the Virginia Department of Social Services, more than 100,000 fewer Virginians are receiving SNAP benefits than this time last year. Central Virginia has been hit hard, with Henrico participation dropping by 18%, Chesterfield by 17% and Richmond by nearly 14%.
