Lucas County agencies asked to cut 2027 budget by 13%

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Lucas County officials are asking the heads of all county departments to prepare for budget cuts to the tune of 13%.

A letter from the county commissioners and the Department of Management and Budget (OMB) obtained by 13 Action News said the county will end 2026 with a shortfall of about $7 million, according to expenses and revenues projections.

While prioritizing health benefits, debt service for renovations at the county jail, and supplementing federal SNAP reductions, county leadership is asking departments to cut their budgets by 13% next year to balance a projected $27 million deficit…
