ST. PAUL, Minn. (Valley News Live) — Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order Tuesday prohibiting state employees from using nonpublic government information to participate in online prediction markets.
Executive Order 26-09 covers all state agency employees, including the governor, lieutenant governor and agency commissioners. It prohibits using confidential or nonpublic data obtained through state employment to gain a financial advantage on prediction markets — platforms that allow users to place wagers on the outcome of events such as elections, legal proceedings and government actions.
