More than a century after New York City’s newsboys took a stand against powerful publishing interests, their story will return to the stage with a cast drawn from communities across the East Valley.
Limelight Performing Arts will present Disney’s “Newsies” July 31-Aug. 9 at the Mesa Arts Center. Featuring more than 50 performers, the production has been divided into two companies — the Rally Cast and the Strike Cast — with children, teens and adults sharing the stage in the high-energy musical.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, “Newsies” follows Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who dreams of escaping the hardships of city life. Jack leads a close-knit group of young newspaper sellers who scrape together a living selling one paper at a time…
