NORTH CAROLINA — A new month is bringing a mild and mostly tranquil Saturday across the state, with partly to mostly sunny skies expected for much of the day. High temperatures are forecast to warm into the 80s and low 90s for most areas, marking a typical early August day statewide.
Isolated Storms Expected West and in the Mountains
While the morning is shaping up to be quiet across North Carolina, forecasters say a few isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening hours. Coverage is expected to be highest across the mountains and foothills, where terrain often enhances afternoon storm development during the summer months.
Areas farther east are expected to see only very isolated activity, with most of the state staying dry through the bulk of the daylight hours before any storm chances arrive later in the day.
Statewide Temperatures Show Typical August Warmth
Highs are expected to range widely depending on elevation and location. Mountain communities such as Boone and Beech Mountain areas are forecast to stay in the mid to upper 70s, while low-elevation cities including Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Wilmington are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s.
Coastal communities like Nags Head, Corolla, and Ocracoke are forecast to see slightly cooler readings in the mid to upper 80s, aided by onshore wind flow, with winds expected out of the south at 5 to 15 mph statewide.
