ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A heat advisory is in effect in Southcentral Alaska, with temperatures expected to reach up to 82 degrees. For people aiming to beat the heat this weekend, Alaska’s News Weather team is expecting temperatures to be cooler by bodies of water.
By Friday afternoon, the weekend was already in full swing at Mirror Lake, as crowds of people were on the shoreline and in the water. Located just off the Glenn Highway, the lake, which is 1.5 miles around and 10 feet deep, provides a scenic backdrop of the Chugiak Mountains. It is here where people can get free access to a sandy beach, picnic tables, volleyball courts and swings. People are also able to swim or take out canoes, kayaks and paddleboards on the water.
Located five miles down the road, AK Paddlesports provides daily rentals of kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. The shop allows people to pick up rentals between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., with returns due any time before 10 p.m…
