FIRST ALERT | Strong to severe thunderstorms likely today

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Happy August! There are many events going on this weekend, as communities prepare for the upcoming start of the school year. Unfortunately, an umbrella is needed if you are heading outside today.

Stormy Saturday

Scattered showers are likely this morning. There may be a few rumbles of thunder, but nothing severe is expected.

There will be a break from rain in the early afternoon. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s to low 80s.

The second round of showers and thunderstorms will move in from west to east this afternoon, starting at around 3 pm. Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon to early evening.

Severe Weather Risk

Damaging winds and localized flash flooding are possible with this evening’s storms. The storms will reach the Lexington metro area at around 6-7 pm and then reach the Hazard area at around 9-10 pm.
