Shreveport K9 tracks down N.J. fugitive in local home

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Shreveport police dog named Karo tracked down a fugitive wanted for child sex crimes who was hiding inside a Louisiana residence, according to the Shreveport Police Department.

K9 Karo assisted the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force on July 30, 2026, as officers served a felony warrant on 27-year-old Jose F. Caal Pop, who was wanted out of New Jersey on charges including aggravated sexual assault, sexual battery, and molestation of a juvenile.

Police say the suspect had allegedly fled to Louisiana to evade capture.

When officers located the suspect, they issued repeated commands for him to surrender, but Caal Pop remained hidden inside the residence. Officers then deployed Karo, who quickly tracked the suspect to the second floor and arrested him, bringing the standoff to a swift end…
