Shreveport police chase ends in shooting after domestic violence call, nearby YMCA hit by bullets

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The following information was provided by the Shreveport Police Department:

Around 7 p.m. Saturday evening, August 1, Shreveport Police officers responded to the 500 block of Boulevard Street after a third party reported a possible domestic violence incident.

As officers arrived, they were flagged down and informed that the suspect was leaving the area in a vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit that ended at the intersection of Knight Street and Preston Street when the suspect lost control and crashed the vehicle.

After the crash, the suspect exited the vehicle and opened fire on officers as they attempted to take him into custody. Officers returned fire. Fortunately, no officers, the suspect, or any members of the public were struck during the exchange.

Investigators later determined the suspect’s vehicle had been reported stolen.

During the gunfire, the nearby YMCA fitness facility was struck by bullets. Fortunately, the business was closed at the time, and no one was inside…
