AUSTIN (Nexstar) — In late June, the Texas Department of Transportation sent a memo to the state’s Rail Transit Agencies (RTA) enforcing that all safety training exams must be administered in English exclusively.
RTAs are required to provide Roadway Worker Protection training to employees and contractors who are working around rail lines in order to keep them safe from trains and equipment. Contractors hoping to work near a rail line must take a course and pass a multiple-choice test to be credentialed.
Those tests used to be administered in Spanish as well, but TXDOT now requires all those tests to be in English only. The memo says RTAs are allowed to provide study and reference materials in the native language, but the tests must be exclusively in English…
