LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A new Louisiana law is expanding when prosecutors can seek first-degree murder charges in certain public shooting cases, a change lawmakers say was prompted by the deadly Mall of Louisiana shooting that claimed the life of 17-year-old Martha Odom of Lafayette Parish.
On April 23, gunfire erupted inside the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Odom, an innocent bystander, was killed during the shooting, according to investigators.
