NEW ORLEANS, LA — Tropical Storm Bertha was holding at 50 mph winds in the latest advisory and moving west-northwest at about 6 mph. Forecasters still expect landfall sometime today or overnight.
The storm’s pace and track could change how long its center stays over land, which will help determine how fast it weakens.
Track
The National Hurricane Center said Bertha was centered just northeast of the Mouth of the Mississippi River, with a central pressure of 997 millibars. Officials say it may drift farther west and move inland over Texas by the end of the week.
Some forecast guidance also shows the possibility of a new center forming later, though that is not part of the official track forecast right now.
