Longest serving exonerated American now going blind, his dream to see the world

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – “Most of my life was taken away from me for something I didn’t do,” said Wilbert Jones.

Jones spent more than 45 years at the Louisiana State Penitentiary for a crime he did not commit. Now free, he has one wish before he loses his sight entirely: to travel and see the places he could only imagine from inside a cell.

Jones’s ophthalmologist has told him his glaucoma has progressed significantly and that he is losing his vision. His family said they are now in a race against time and his remaining sight.
