A female dog found in a crate at a gas station was brought to a Jefferson Parish shelter in distress, where staff discovered a deceased puppy and moved quickly to surgery. The emergency C-section likely saved the dog’s life, according to the shelter.
A passerby reported finding the dog before she was dropped off at Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services in Harvey last Friday. In the shelter’s Facebook post Monday, JPAWS said veterinarian Dr. Brooke Kaufmann examined the dog and determined that an emergency C-section was needed.
