RICHMOND, Texas (CW39) — A key court hearing on Wednesday could determine the next step in the legal battle over who has the authority to lead Fort Bend County.
A district judge is set to hear arguments in the ongoing dispute over Interim County Judge Daniel Wong and whether he can remain county judge.
Dispute of who is the Fort Bend County Judge continues with no resolution
County Attorney Bridgette Smith-Lawson is asking the court to pause her quo warranto lawsuit while another judge decides whether the case should be handled through an earlier removal proceeding involving County Judge KP George, who remains suspended after he was convicted for felony money laundering earlier this year.
Wong’s attorneys argue that he should remain county judge under the Texas Constitution, although Smith-Lawson disputes that because Wong was not elected to his position.
