BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – State prosecutors presented graphic photo evidence and new details Wednesday in the first day of the Jefferson County capital murder trial of Youit Jones.
Jones is accused of killing and mutilating 42-year-old Nathan Gemeinhart in 2022. If convicted, Jones will face the death penalty.

State prosecutors relied partly on testimony from Gemeinhart’s family, friends, and colleagues, many of whom packed the courtroom for the trial’s first day, to establish a timeline of Gemeinhart’s disappearance and the discovery of his body.
Gemeinhart’s wife, Jessica, was the first to testify. She said Gemeinhart left their home in south Jefferson County the morning of Aug. 8, 2022 for work around 7 a.m., with plans to meet her and their oldest daughter at a kindergarten meet-the-teacher event at 11:30 a.m…
