Columbia officials warn drivers of flood-prone streets and intersections

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — City of Columbia officials are urging residents to avoid flood-prone roads and intersections as heavy rain moves through the area.

The city warns drivers not to travel through flooded streets, saying water may be deeper than it appears and can hide hazards such as washed-out pavement, downed power lines, and debris.

Officials say that as little as 12 inches of water can float a car, while 18 inches can sweep away larger vehicles…
