Coastal erosion threatens Rhode Island lighthouses, prompting calls for long-term funding

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island’s many historic lighthouses draw thousands of visitors every year, but there’s some growing concern that erosion is putting their futures at risk.

The Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown is America’s third-oldest lighthouse, and in recent years, erosion has forced the closure of the road surrounding it to vehicle traffic.
