Camp Mystic is asking a bankruptcy judge to temporarily stop parents from seeking to hold members of the Eastland family personally responsible for the deaths of their children in last summer’s catastrophic flood at the Texas Hill Country retreat.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, Camp Mystic argued an injunction is necessary to stop victims’ parents from suing individual Eastland family members who own or operate the camp because those claims would disrupt its bankruptcy case.
The camp argued the parents’ claims would exceed and deplete the $6 million worth of liability insurance coverage it had at the time of the disaster. It also alleged that allowing the parents’ lawsuits to continue against the Eastlands individually would cause “irreparable harm” to Camp Mystic’s reorganization efforts…
