BALA CYNWYD, PA — Two people were hospitalized Friday afternoon after a large tree crashed onto Belmont Avenue in Bala Cynwyd and struck three vehicles that were stopped in traffic. The fall happened just before 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Belmont Avenue at the split for Old Belmont Avenue.
Authorities said people inside two of the vehicles were treated at the scene for minor injuries. A third vehicle carried a 43-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger, both of whom were hurt when the tree came down.
Passenger suffered critical injuries after the tree hit a stopped car
The most seriously injured person was the 28-year-old passenger in the third vehicle. He was taken to Lankenau Hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition, according to authorities.
The driver of that same vehicle, a 43-year-old man, also went to Lankenau Hospital with minor injuries. Officials said the other two vehicles had occupants with minor injuries who were treated at the scene rather than being transported.
Belmont Avenue closed while crews cleared debris and repaired wires
