The closure of the 526 Penn Ave. location was first reported by WPXI, which noted a PrimoHoagies representative did not respond to a request for comment on why the store shut its doors. PrimoHoagies had entered the Pittsburgh market in 2021 as part of a broader national franchise expansion, eventually operating three area locations in Pleasant Hills, Peters Township and Downtown, according to the station’s reporting. The chain’s first Pittsburgh shop opened in 2022 inside the Strip District’s Terminal development, per the same account.
The quiet exit fits a pattern that has played out in other cities this year. Hoodline previously reported that PrimoHoagies locations in Houston vanished overnight in April, and stores across the Denver area shut down in similarly abrupt fashion by late May, with storefronts going dark and online listings disappearing without prior notice in both markets.

The Pittsburgh closure arrives even as PrimoHoagies corporate has been publicly touting expansion.
