Water levels in the Dillon Reservoir have continued to steadily drop since peaking at 80% capacity early this summer. Denver Water officials say they’ll get far lower before snowmelt starts to refill the reservoir next spring.
According to a recent update from Denver Water, the reservoir was at around 75% capacity on July 31. By Labor Day, the reservoir’s water line is expected to drop another 8-10 feet, and by the beginning of next April, the reservoir is projected to be just 50-60% full.
That projection would leave the Dillon Reservoir in a similar state to the 2002-2003 drought, which saw the reservoir drop to 48% full. Still, water levels are expected to remain far higher than the 1978 drought, when the reservoir bottomed out at 35% capacity…
