CLEVELAND – Residents of Cleveland and northern Ohio face a quiet Saturday afternoon before a potentially significant severe weather and heavy rainfall event develops Monday and Monday night, with strong to severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, heavy downpours and possible tornadoes.

Saturday morning brought widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region, but that activity has moved east. A lull with considerable sunshine is expected through the afternoon, with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 80s. A cold front will push through the area Saturday evening, bringing a broken line of showers and thunderstorms roughly between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., with a few widely scattered storms possible ahead of it. Dew points in the 70 to 75 degree range will fuel strong storm development, and some storms could produce damaging winds. Rainfall from Thursday night through Saturday morning has already deposited one to three inches across portions of the lakeshore, including Erie and Lorain counties and central and southern Cuyahoga County, leaving those areas more vulnerable to localized flooding if additional heavy rain falls…
