Councilman Stokes seeks to increase police funding

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes is calling for changes to city operations to create a safer community, proposing budget cuts and departmental shifts to boost funding for local law enforcement.

According to Councilman Stokes, many Jackson residents are living in fear, which he believes hinders the revitalization of the capital city.

“The City of Jackson needs to be safe. Again, the City of Jackson needs to be safe,” Stokes said. “People are afraid in Jackson. They are afraid to come out at night. They are afraid to sit on their porches. They are afraid of Jackson, period. Let’s make Jackson safe.”…
