Joseph Ashcraft was crouched behind home plate catching fastballs when he heard that his kids’ school might close.
Two moms were chatting behind Ashcraft, who coaches the Krotz Springs Swamp Sisters, while the pitcher warmed up. One said she’d heard the St. Landry Parish School Board was considering shutting down Krotz Springs Elementary, the sole public school in this small town about 40 miles west of Baton Rouge.
