BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Thousands of Birmingham City Schools students returned to the classroom Monday, kicking off a new school year with school leaders emphasizing attendance, academic improvement and preparing students for life after graduation.
At Wenonah High School, students were greeted with a high-energy welcome as they arrived for the first day. The school’s marching band, cheerleaders, alumni, school leaders and members of Birmingham Alpha’s and Omega Psi Phi fraternities lined the entrance to welcome students.
