The new owner of a $70 million, 12-acre property in Hillsborough modeled after a lakeside Italian villa appears to be Yuhuai Wu, a 31-year-old xAI cofounder and one of the key developers of the love-it-or-hate-it chatbot Grok.
The purchase of 3000 Ralston Ave. is Northern California’s biggest sale so far this year. Though property records list the owner of the 12,000-square-foot home as “Daikon no Hana Capital LLC,” the buyer was represented by J West Investments’ Jia Xu, an unknown presence in the Peninsula real estate agent scene who appears to have taken part in just one other major residential sale in the last five years: Wu’s $12 million purchase of a Los Altos Hills home last year.
The LLC is managed by Steven D. Anderson, a Burlingame-based attorney specializing in estate planning. Property records show Anderson put Wu’s Los Altos Hills property into a family trust about a week before the Hillsborough sale closed Aug. 6. The LLC’s name is a possible reference to either Daikon no Hana, a well-regarded Japanese luxury hotel in an onsen mountain town about four hours north of Tokyo, or a ballad of the same name (which translates to “radish flower”) by Sayuri Ishikawa about braving life’s challenges.
