After just over a year of construction, Kentucky American Water has finished its water main replacement project on North Limestone.
Work crews finished the $5.7 million project on Aug. 11, reopening the block of North Limestone between 7th Street and Loudon Avenue to through traffic for the first time since early July. The road closure was necessary so crews could burrow into rock underneath the railroad tracks that cross North Limestone, Kentucky American Water spokesperson Susan Lancho told the Herald-Leader.
Kentucky American Water began the water main replacement in July 2025. Crews replaced 6,360 linear feet of cast iron water mains that were built between 1884 and 1937, Lancho said. The new water main also had to be connected to existing lines along nearby streets…
