A Buffalo police officer has sparked intense public backlash and an internal police probe after viral video footage caught him fast asleep behind the wheel of his marked patrol car, parked illegally directly on top of a public sidewalk while tasked with monitoring traffic.

The viral footage shows the officer slouched inside an A District (South District) cruiser at the intersection of Ohio and Moore streets, positioned directly across from Buffalo River Fest Park. Despite being assigned to traffic enforcement and public safety duties during a busy community event, the officer sits completely motionless with his driver’s side window rolled down, his mouth hanging open, and his eyes shut behind a pair of sunglasses as vehicles freely pass his vehicle.
