RFK Jr. Says He Can’t Vote Because He’s Legally Homeless, But Something’s Off

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. seemed to be a bit mixed up as he claimed he can’t vote because courts once deemed him legally homeless, despite neither being accurate.

Asked who he plans to vote for in LA’s mayoral election during a Tuesday press conference, the Health and Human Services secretary shared a hard-to-follow explanation of the “strange position” he was in.

Flashing back to when Democrats sued to get Kennedy removed from several states’ ballots, the former environmental lawyer says he got put in a voting pickle after a judge “declared that I had no legal residence.”

In reality, the ruling that did get Kennedy scrapped from New York ballots never said he was a man from nowhere. It did, however, determine that the New York address he used on nominating petitions was not his legal, permanent residence, voiding the election documents.

Regardless, the secretary said he was “in a dilemma where I literally have no state where I can legally vote right now” and that he was “probably the only person in the country who’s a legal citizen who has that dilemma.” “But I’m still trying to figure it out before the next election,” he added.

Even if Kennedy, who bought a $4.4 million home in Washington, DC’s posh Georgetown enclave in 2025, was legally residence-less, that wouldn’t bar him from voting.

The government’s official vote.gov site has an entire page dedicated to “Voting while unhoused” and clearly outlines ways people “without a permanent address,” as well as those “who move around often or are between homes,” can register to vote. Maybe Kennedy’s excuse was just a convoluted way to avoid backing either candidate for LA mayor, since both incumbent Karen Bass and city Councilwoman Nithya Raman are Democrats.
