A date has been set for the jury trial for the man accused of killing his father in Lone Tree. Beginning January 19th, 52-year-old Scott Powers of Cedar Rapids will come before a jury in a trial. Powers has pleaded not guilty, and waived his right to a speedy trial. He’s charged with murder in the first degree.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, authorities conducted a welfare check at 217 West Elm Street in Lone Tree on the evening of July 13th. They found a deceased male in the residence, and the victim was identified as 76-year-old Richard Powers of Lone Tree.
According to a criminal complaint, Scott Powers arrived at a Cedar Rapids residence with blood on himself and admitted to killing his father. He also had injuries consistent with his description of the murder. Scott Powers was arrested the following day…
