SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Evacuation notices for a southeast Springfield neighborhood were canceled Thursday morning after a grass fire burned about 16 acres of dry vegetation Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started near Mount Vernon and Jasper roads and spread quickly through the dry grass, prompting law enforcement to go door to door warning nearby residents to be prepared to evacuate. An initial Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation notice was later reduced to a Level 1 “Be Ready” notice.
