HONOLULU (Island News) — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) is giving the public a courtesy review of the Final Environmental Assessment for the Ala Wai Pedestrian Bridge project.
The proposed Ala Wai Pedestrian Bride, nicknamed “Ala Pono,” would provide a new pedestrian crossing over the Ala Wai Canal, improving connectivity between Waikiki and the McCully-Mo’ili’ili communities while enhancing emergency access in and out of Waikiki. The bridge would also improve access to nearby parks, schools and other recreational destinations. This courtesy review is one of several community engagement opportunities.
The project’s Draft Environmental Assessment was originally published for public comment in 2021. The project is subject to Hawai’i Revised Statutes 6E-8. Extensive discussions with the community regarding public preservation concluded in June 2025.
