LANCASTER, Ky. — Just over 13 years after the murder of a Hopkinsville woman, law enforcement took their primary suspect into custody.
Fay Springfield Wadlington, 53, was found dead in her Hopkinsville home on July 30, 2013. She had been strangled with a garrote made from a broom handle and a T-shirt and had been stabbed multiple times with a pair of scissors.
On Aug. 19, 2014, an arrest warrant was issued for 55-year-old Jason Patterson, who had contact with Springfield Wadlington on the day of the crime. DNA at the scene of the crime had a more than 99.99% probability of belonging to Patterson, the warrant stated.
According to the warrant, when an investigator visited Patterson’s Lancaster home to interview him about the murder, Patterson agreed to speak but then fled out the back door. His truck was later found abandoned in Lyon County…
