OpenAI and Elon Musk’s xAI called this S.F. building home. Now another startup is moving in

The Pioneer Building has become something like a revolving door for San Francisco’s tech elite. Stripe once called the three-story historic Mission District building home, followed by OpenAI and Elon Musk’s xAI. Now another buzzy artificial intelligence startup is taking over the keys.

Exa, a five-year-old AI research company launched by Harvard roommates Will Bryk and Jeff Wang, has taken over the roughly 40,000 square-foot building at 3180 18th St., the founders announced on social media Monday.

Real estate insiders confirmed to the Chronicle that its lease at the Pioneer building is for a minimum term of seven years. Exa did not immediately respond to a request for comment…
