Eugene man jailed for DUII with 3 young children in truck

EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene man was arrested Saturday night for driving under the influence of intoxicants with three children in the car, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said a caller reported a pickup truck was swerving and almost struck the caller’s car on Echo Hollow Road on Aug. 15 at 9 p.m. The caller said the pickup then pulled into a convenience store parking lot and almost struck the building. Police responded and witnessed the driver exiting the store with three young children and a box of alcohol beverages. The driver appeared to have trouble walking, but got into the truck with the children and drove away, rapidly accelerating more than 70 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

The driver, later identified as Paulino Santiago Padilla, 36, of Eugene, ran a stop sign and swerved off the road. When the officer activated the overhead lights, Padilla pulled into a driveway on Bertelsen Road…
