CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville City Council voted to approve $3 million for the expansion of the Center of Hope, a homeless shelter in the area.
The $28 million project would add about 15,000 square feet to the Ridge Street facility, bringing it to roughly 47,000 square feet. It would also add 2 additional floors, totaling to be a 4-story building.
Bed capacity would more than double, from 55 to 114, and the dining area would grow from 60 to 120 seats. There would also be more family transitional housing suites.
A multi-purpose room would grow to 2,415 square feet, used for youth and adult programming, emergency services and the organization’s Angel Tree Christmas gift campaign…
