Extreme Heat, Thunderstorms For North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for northeast and north Central Florida and portions of southeast Georgia from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

According to the latest NWS Jacksonville update, high temperatures will reach 94° to 101°, with peak heat indices of 108° to 115°. HeatRisk is Extreme across much of the area.

Heat Advisories are in effect elsewhere in southeast Georgia during the same period.

Stay safe in the extreme heat by following these guidelines:

  • Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water
  • Limit strenuous time outdoors in the afternoon
  • If you have AC, use it – Fans may not be adequate
  • Wear light-weight, light-colored clothing
  • NEVER leave children or pets in vehicles

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon and evening, mainly after 2–5 p.m., with rain chances of 40–60% in many areas. Any storms could produce brief gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain.
