KC Council’s security owes an apology to man mistreated at City Hall | Williams

I have sat through a lot of civic board meetings in my days as a reporter. Many times, I’ve seen citizens yell disapprovingly from the audience at public officials for making what they believed were bad decisions.

Only twice have I ever seen a person wrongly dragged from a meeting for exercising their First Amendment rights with passionate control, and one of those times was in a video of exactly that situation occurring in the Kansas City Council chambers Tuesday during a meeting about financing for the downtown Royals stadium project.

And here’s my take: It was a downright disgusting display of escalation and overreaction put on by the City Hall security team. They should be made to apologize to the man whose rights they violated. And city officials should see to it that security personnel are properly trained…
