DENVER (KDVR) — The DEA is encouraging parents to talk with their children about the dangers of illegal street drugs as students head back to school.
“Tell your kid right now: don’t ever ever take a pill unless it’s from a doctor, not even half a pill,” DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division Assistant Special Agent in Charge Eric Neal said.

Neal said messaging about the dangers of fentanyl needs to be reinforced, as illegal street drugs killed more than 1,800 people in Colorado last year.
Neal said parents should watch for emojis on their children’s cell phones because some can be used as secret language between drug users and sellers. He said hearts, funny faces and even snowflakes can be used in those conversations.
“So they text different emojis which can stand for methamphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl and they can pay via Zelle, Venmo. It’s very simple, and it can get delivered right to their door,” Neal said…
