CORVALLIS — Among Oregon State’s 11 true freshmen on scholarship, cornerback Kai Wheaton is standing out.
A former three-star prospect, Wheaton has repeatedly drawn praise from coach JaMarcus Shephard and backed it up on the field. During OSU’s first fall scrimmage, the 5-foot-11 Wheaton broke up a pass in the end zone intended for 6-foot-3 receiver Cynai Thomas.
“He’s kind of a natural playmaker,” fellow cornerback Trey Glasper said. “He always finds a way to the ball somehow. He has a knack for pass breakups. … He’s, in my eyes, a hard matchup for anybody to go up against.”…
