Lansing council member asks city to terminate Flock camera contracts

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — First Ward Council Member Ryan Kost has submitted a proposal to the Lansing City Council asking the city administration and the Lansing Police Department to terminate its contracts with Flock license plate reader cameras.

On Aug. 20, Kost posted the submitted resolution on Facebook saying he thinks the cameras raise concerns for privacy, potential misuse and cybersecurity risks.

Kost said that although the cameras may have reduced car theft and increased vehicle recovery, he does not want to support a system that he says records every citizen’s movement.
